Credit Policies Two semesters of a one-credit course may be averaged together for full credit. Transfer students from non-accredited public,
private, or parochial schools shall validate credit for courses by testing or evidence that courses meet the State Board requirements
and standards must be identified.
Regular Courses The level of instruction in
regular classes is designed for the majority of the students; the curriculum is structured to challenge most students and
prepare them for college entrance.
Pre-AP and AP Courses Through Pre-Advanced
Placement and Advanced Placement courses, advanced instruction is provided for students who have demonstrated that they are
not sufficiently challenged in the regular classroom. Enrollment in these classes is open to students who will commit to do
the advanced work and the study that is required. Recommendations from teachers will also be sought. It is a requirement for
students in Advanced Placement classes to be passing the course at the end of the first semester in order to remain in
the class. Gifted/Talented students are served through these classes. Pre-AP and AP classes are given extra rank
weight when GPA is computed. The following Pre-AP and AP classes are offered:
Pre-AP English I, II; Pre-AP
Algebra I, II; Pre-AP Geometry; Pre-AP Pre-Calculus; Pre-AP Biology; Pre-AP Chemistry; Pre-AP Physics; Pre-AP World
Geography; Pre-AP World History; Pre-AP Spanish 3 & 4; Pre-AP French 3 & 4.
Calculus AB and BC; AP English III and IV; AP Environmental
Science; AP Biology; AP Physics; AP Statistics; AP US Government; AP US History; AP World History; AP Art Two-Dimensional
Portfolio; AP Art Drawing Portfolio.
Weight of Courses Basic/Special Education courses are calculated on a 4.0 scale. Regular courses are on a 5.0 scale. Honors/PreAP and Dual
Credit courses on a 6.0 scale. Advanced Placement courses are on a 6.5 scale.
Weighted Courses There are some courses which are not labeled Pre-AP because they do not lead to an approved
AP course, but they require superior skills of the students electing to take them as indicated by the entry criteria. These
courses receive the same rank weight as Pre-AP courses (6.0 basis). These courses are Anatomy and Physiology, Debate II and
III, Independent Study in Speech, and Journalism II, III, and IV.
